RCEC Fiber FAQ

1. At what stage is your project currently at?

At this current time, we are finalizing the contracts with RUS and have sent in our final paperwork to be processed. We are hoping, unless there are delays again, that we will begin construction by the end of the summer.

2. Who is handling the contracting work for your project?

Currently, we are utilizing Pulse Broandband to oversee our project. At this time, they are finalizing the contracts to begin construction.

3. Where will construction begin?

Construction wil begin in the northeastern part of the RCEC electrical grid and make its way towards the southern part of our territories. The phase maps can be viewed here.

4. What will the new service cost and what packages will be available?

Ralls Technologies will offer two different packages. Our first package will offer 10mb down/10mb up for $39.95 and our second package will offer 20mb down/10mb up for $49.95.

5. Will there be any installation fees associated to obtaining the new service?

As of right now, we have not finalized any installation cost, though our goal is to make sure those costs are $100 or less .

6. Will there be both residential and commercial type accounts?

Yes, Ralls Technologies will have both types of services available. As far as pricing is concerned for commercial accounts, these rates have not be determined but will be based on potential usage.

7. When will customers be able to start using this new service?

During the early parts of the construction phase, we will be running a beta to ensure we are delivering a premium product. Once the beta testing has finished, customers will have access to the new network as it come available.

8. What other services may come available through this fiber project?

Not only is Ralls Technologies going to provide high speed internet service, they will aslo be providing HD Television and telephone services.

9. If existing electrical service is underground, how will the fiber be run?

RCEC construction crews will follow the existing easements in regards to running the fiber. If the electric is in the air, the fiber will be in the air. If the electric is running underground, the fiber will be placed underground, unless circumstances warrant differently.

10. Will RCEC be responsible for bringing the fiber to the home?

Yes. RCEC will be bring the fiber directly to a connectivity box on the home. From there a content provider, such as Ralls Technologies, will assess their own fees to connect customer to the service(s) they have requested.

11. Will customers be allowed to host a web server on a residential service?

At this current time, this service will only be allowed to those that sign-up for a commercial account.

12. Will Ralls Technologies customers be able to upgrade to this new service?

Ralls Technologies customers that have a meter through RCEC will be able to upgrade to the new services as they come available in your area.

13. If a customer has multiple meters, will the customer be responsible for connecting fiber to the additional meters?

No. RCEC will be running fiber to each meter as part of their development of their smart grid technology. This, however, does not include the connectivity box for other services. This device will only be placed on the primary location at no charge.

14. Will customers be able to access daily/hourly meter data via website or in-home display?

We haven't finalized the final product to say whether or not these options will be available. We are hoping to make sure though that we will be incorporation these ideas plus many more in our final vendor choice.
